Computers and technology

At Babinda P-12 State School, we are working to prepare our students for the life beyond school. We use information and learning technologies to enhance the classroom experience, to improve learning outcomes, to broaden understanding and to give students the skills to be able to access the digital world and economy.

Rich daily access to technology

Students at all levels within the School use technology on a daily basis. Just some of the examples are:

  • Almost all classrooms contain interactive whiteboards and much of students' learning occurs through the use of digital resources.
  • Each student in prep receives their own free purpose built, early year’s laptop to provide daily access to computer skills as well as to support foundation learning and revision.
  • Students in our senior phase receive their own laptop free of charge for personal study and daily work use.
  • Junior primary and special needs students have access to sets of ipads to enhance their learning and ensure students can take advantage of new and emerging learning tools.
  • Across the school students have access to four computer labs as well as class racks of laptops.
  • All learning areas enjoy strong wireless networked capabilities to ensure mobility and freedom to learn.
  • Our Electronic learning centre (ELC) gives students access to a wide world of online subjects via distance education and early entry to university as well as TAFE courses are available.

Whilst being on the cutting edge of technology is important to us the use of technology is balanced with the need to ensure students still gain a love of reading and literature. Therefore our library offers both up to date technology and also more traditional approaches to accessing fiction and non-fiction resources.
