At Babinda P-12 State School, the allocation of resources to enhance student capabilities and skills in sport has improved exponentially. An area of strength is the afterschool sport program.  Each term particular sports are selected and coaching staff are sourced to work with the school and students to ensure the product we deliver is a success.  Families at Babinda P-12 State School are recognising the benefits a quality after school sports program can provide.
This term, active after school sports commences with coaching staff confirmed to be coming from Queensland Cricket, AFL and the NRL sporting organisations.  Afterschool sport is provided free of charge to primary students of Babinda State School on Monday and Wednesday afternoons – usually from Week 3 of each term to Week 9.  The federal government’s Sporting School’s initiative provides the majority of funding for these activities.
The student’s thoroughly enjoy the afternoons and look forward to each term learning something new or practicing a sport they are already involved in around the community.  Year 5 student Matthew Wilkins has been a part of the after school sports program for a number of years and after yesterday’s session learning AFL skills he said “After school sports was heaps of fun today, I especially liked learning from a real AFL player”.  The after school sports program is an innovative product that aims to give every student an opportunity to be involved and try something new.
