Saturday 13th September 2014, marked an important date that staff, past and present students of Babinda P-12 State School and their families and friends, along with the Babinda community had been excitedly anticipating its arrival.  It was Babinda P-12 State School turn to celebrate 100 years of schooling.  With over 2000 people flocking through the gates from 3pm onwards, visitors were entertained by outstanding presentations, student performances, market stalls, memorabilia, student council run Side Show Ally, amusement rides, live band and fireworks, there really was something for everyone.

Past students travelled from as far away as Germany, Auckland and all over Australia to take part and catch up with friends, family, teachers and staff that they haven’t seen in many, many years.  Cries of “oh my goodness”, “I can’t believe it’s you”, “you look amazing” and ”it’s been so long” were heard throughout the day and night, the warmth of greetings of the attendees combined with the atmosphere of the celebrations was unbelievable.

The schools centenary celebration was a massive success and the school has received an abundance of compliments about how truly amazing the day was to all who attended.  Rodney Edwards from Roddos News Babinda was one of our favourite compliments when he said “3 Million cheers to the true champions of Babinda P-12 State School who spent countless hours bringing together the greatest event Babinda has seen in the last 100 years.”
Principal Matt Thompson would like to sincerely say a very big thank you to everyone who helped out in any way and to every single person who supported our special milestone, we are glad you enjoyed the centenary!
