Friday 4th September Babinda P-12 State School proudly hosted a T20 Blast Cricket Gala Day.  The day included teams from Gordonvale State School, Miriwinni State School, Small Schools Combined (McDonnell Creek, Bellenden Ker and Bartle Frere State Schools) and St Rita’s Babinda nominating a team and bringing their team spirit for a day full of fun.  Blake Rutherford from QLD Cricket Cairns Branch in partnership with the Primary PE Teacher Dwayne Richardson worked together to make the day possible and an absolute success.  The weather was perfect in Babinda, blue skies and with 4 fields set up for play, the competition commenced.
The MILO T20 Blast School Cup gives girls and boys the opportunity to play four action packed games of cricket on the one day.  Every player gets a chance to bat, bowl and field. It's an exciting atmosphere, complete with music and dancing just like the KFC T20 Big Bash League.
Students at Babinda P-12 State School have been training hard during and after school hours, and this paid off with Babinda became victorious in both girls and boys categories on the day.  The win ensures the teams make it through to the next stage, playing in T20 Blast in Cairns.  Casey McCrae of Year 6 said “I really enjoyed playing cricket with other girls from my school, our team was really good and we supported each other throughout the day.  We can’t wait to have another day of cricket when we go to Cairns to compete.”
