Babinda Excellence Academy in Sport and Training (BEAST)
Aim of the
Program
The aim of the BEAST program is to provide students at Babinda State School with high quality training and sporting experiences that extend their current sporting and athletic abilities. Students participating in this program will improve their chances of gaining selection into regional and state representative teams and improve their results in Health and Physical Education through focused training, goal setting and performance monitoring.
The BEAST program is our commitment to having students who attend school more than 95% of the time receive personalised attention to support them in achieving their highest sporting potential. A maximum of 40 students are invited into this program each year. Student selection is based on their desired goals, demonstrated commitment to competitive sporting achievement and commitment to their academic achievements.
Once in the BEAST program your child will have a training plan developed and goals set. Students selected:
- are provided with 2 x 1 hours sessions a week for year 7-8 students, and 3 x 1 hours sessions for years 9-12
- complete regular testing in order to identify fitness and progress towards sporting targets
- focus on improving their sports and health related fitness as well as personal sports related targets.
What is
the level of commitment required?
Students selected are required to:
- maintain over 95% attendance in school attendance and 100% attendance of training
- be committed to participating in competitive sport both within and outside the school
- apply excellent behaviour and effort in all of their classes
We are undertaking this approach of investing in our athletes to provide some of the opportunities of sports and training not often seen in small communities and schools. I strongly encourage secondary students to nominate for this great initiative, and work together in partnership with us to lift their sporting performance.
