Babinda P-12 State School caters for students from prep to year 12 and students who wish to enrol in our school after the eighth day of Term 1 must undertake a comprehensive enrolment interview process. Research undertaken by James Cook University has shown that a comprehensive entry interview not only better prepares teachers and students for their entry into class but also reduces the impact on other students’ learning.
The enrolment process involves
Completion of the following forms which are part of the enrolment pack (available at the office):
Arranging an interview time with the Principal or Head of department.
An enrolment Interview with the Principal/Head of department, student and parent.
A student assessment interview – conducted post entry to school.
The purpose of the enrolment interview is to assist you with an introduction to the school, provide information on issues around behaviour, learning, book and uniform requirements and any other queries or concerns that may arise during your child’s transition into Babinda P-12 State School.
The primary role of the student assessment interview which occurs is to assess and capture an accurate picture of the new student by identifying learning strengths and needs. These results are then passed onto the class teachers and other relevant support staff (i.e. Learning support, Guidance officer) to ensure the student has a smooth transition into Babinda P-12 State School.
Once the enrolment is completed you and your child will be shown to the classroom by the Principal/Head of department and introduced to your child’s new teacher on the agreed commencement date.
For children entering prep or those enrolling in an Education Queensland school for the first time, providing a birth certificate or other documentary evidence of proof of age is mandatory. Children are eligible to enter prep if they turn five before June 30 of that year. To enrol in year 1 a child must turn six by 30 June of that year.
After approximately a fortnight at school, an appointment with the teacher (primary) or Head of department (secondary) to see how well your child is adjusting and settling in at Babinda P-12 State School is encouraged.
The following are also provided as part of the enrolment pack to provide ongoing information to parents about our school:
